“be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.” -I Corinthians 15:58

Sometime ago I read the story of Nola Ochs. It was 2006 and she was celebrating her 95th birthday, and was also graduating from Fort Hays State University. She began classes at Fort Hays in 1930 when it was known as Kansas State Teachers College. Nola said, “I’m really excited about getting to walk at the graduation ceremony with my granddaughter.” When asked for some words of wisdom she simply said, “I give thanks to the Lord, and try to do daily whatever is pleasing to Him. That’s what I want to do.”

We could gain some valuable insights into life from Nola Ochs. I don’t know the circumstances in the life of Nola between 1930 and 2006, but obviously this is something she wanted to complete. Situations in life are rarely ideal, but nevertheless worthwhile goals are worth pursuing and completing. This is certainly true of the Christian life.

The names are endless of those who had good intentions in regards to coming to Christ, and living for Him. Problems arise, obstacles get in the way, changes that ought to be made are never made, and life goes on without Christ. Don’t let this be your plight. The final walk across the stage of life into that heavenly realm will prove to all that the spiritual journey is worth finishing.
