Blanco resident Maggie Goodman will appear with the Second Act Troupe when the acting Company returns for a second production in Blanco in early December. Maggie recently joined the regional organization and was part of a stellar cast that recently performed Deckchairs to very enthusiastic audiences in San Marcos.
The same production will be presented in Blanco on Friday, December 5 at 7:30 pm and Sunday, December 7 at 2:30 pm. Performances will be at the Learning Center Theatre in the School District Admin building at 814 11th Street opposite the Elementary School. Tickets are already on sale and reservations can be made by calling (512) 618-3355.
It seemed a natural for Maggie Goodman to go into acting since she had been performing for her chickens, dogs and aunts at the age of six in her home town of Killeen, Texas. After acting and directing in plays from elementary to high school it also seemed a given that she would go on to study drama at the University of Texas at Austin. “Those were wonderful times and I credit the great professors I had for nurturing and advancing my love of theatre” says Maggie.
In the late 60’s and early 70’s Maggie lived and performed in California before taking a break from theatre to raise a family. In 1995 she joined a new Company, the Austin Theatre for Youth. She thought the productions were top notch and enjoyed being a part of that family.
Maggie also did costume design for several other companies in Austin and was a member of the only women’s theatre in Austin, the Word of Mouth Women’s Theatre. Maggie says “It was a small Company so everyone wore several hats. I did everything from acting to advertising and was probably the janitor too!”
After moving to the Hill Country in 1997 Maggie co-wrote and acted in a piece written about Dripping Springs and was publicity Director for the Wild Flower Theatre in Johnson City. She now does storytelling in and around Blanco and teaches children how to act in a program at the Blanco Library.
When the Second Act Troupe asked Maggie to join their Company she jumped at the chance. “The establishment of a high quality regional theatre in Blanco is a dream come true for me” says Maggie.
Don’t miss the opportunity to see Maggie’s very dramatic performances in the Second Act Troupe’s production of Deckchairs.
