The Blanco County Habitat for Humanity continued its first A Brush with Kindness project on Saturday, November 22, with an 8 AM start in the cool weather.

About 20 volunteers continued the work from the previous Saturday.

Crew leaders David Hamm, Mike Kelley and Danny Campos decided which of the volunteers had the skills appropriate for the various tasks.

One crew put a second coat of paint the front porch.

Another crew did further work to stabilize the carport.

Other workers added a short fence to one end of the carport area to the help keep the homeowner’s dogs in the yard. Porch trim was replaced on the small guest house.

Homeowner Stacy Kamas worked alongside the volunteers and several of her friends from St. Sophia’s Orthodox Church in Dripping Springs, with Stacy taking breaks when a crew member needed to consult with her.

Morning coffee, Marge Tellez’ yummy coffee cake, and breakfast snacks from Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Johnson City were set out along with bottles of water and soft drinks that would be needed throughout the day.

Habitat encourages its workers to drink a lot of liquid when on a job site.

After an energetic and cold morning of work, volunteers gathered to eat barbecue sandwiches, chips and dips and some of the best home baked cookies provided by Bob and Judy King and other members of Blanco United Methodist Church.

The cookies gave workers a good reason to get down off their ladders, stow their hammers and paint brushes, and take a mid-afternoon break.
